HELP. I wrote genderbent vaguely-Sonata-verse drawerfic just to get it out of my head, and what was supposed to just be a kinky sex scene to live on my hard drive forever just sprouted a plot.

I have other projects to work on! I don't have time for Yet Another Turnabout Serenade AU, Genderbent Edition, This Time Rated E!

...fiiiiiiiiiine I'll write it and see how far I get. Might be a fun "work on this in between serious fics" project. But still. C'mon, brain. Why.

(I would blame this on a stressful weekend and Mirage dumping a glass of water on my head at 2 AM, but honestly I think my brain is just like this.)

It's been a while. Two months really. I've been keeping up with my reading page here and formulated a couple of posts in my head, but whenever I sit in front the computer, I just felt very uninspired when it comes to any kind of communication. I haven't really felt motivated to be creative either. Instead, I've read a lot, played a variety of games - Sims 4 on the computer and Zombie Miner and Tower War on my phone).

I've slowly seen my creative creep back though. I've started a couple of stories on paper, noted down some ideas for some icon textures and am contemplating a new claim over at [community profile] dailyicons - currently I'm leaning towards a claim to make black & white icons open to all fandoms / stock.

A large grasshopper-like insect clinging to a window screen. Its legs are stretched out and it has a long wing trailing behind it. The photo is taken from inside the house and the insect is outside (thank goodness).

Much larger IRL than I expected… [Wikipedia]

I have:

* 3 appointments tomorrow, all remote (for later today versions of "tomorrow", because I rarely get to sleep before midnight)
* 2 appointments Wednesday
* Only one appointment Thursday, but it looks like a doozy
* The morning primary care adjacent appointment on Wednesday got scheduled today (Monday) by using the magic combination of phrases "my oncologist said" and "new lump"
* (it's probably a ganglion cyst, since I have a history of those going back to the 1980s)

And then I managed to drive myself to Pained Noises & a complete lack of energy today by:

Just wanted to acknowledge, I know three beautiful women who are either terminally ill or receiving chemo for very aggressive forms of cancer. I have lost so many friends and family members, I think this sort of thing becomes triggering, after a while. I bought cards for all of them today, but I don't have their mailing addresses. I will figure out how to ask, maybe in a couple of days I will try.

I am so grateful for what I have. I wish I could find a way to be at peace with this life, as it is, in this moment.

Maybe the stars will help.

This lady is amazing and this cosplay is amazing.

...

I am enjoying the inspiration from her channel, and I went back for the fuzzy white fur. I may make a moth or a butterfly or something else; a little white cursed bird, who knows.

I'd really love to make some sort of soft plushy costume that would completely obscure my human form and be easy to interact with, like Totoro, but I am not sure what that would be, yet. I have imagined variations on dragons and birds, but still have come up with nothing, so far. Will keep contemplating this.

I might make my puppet one of our local native blue butterflies. Fender's Blue has a remarkable recovery story, thanks to the efforts of those who also fought for spotted owl recovery in Oregon.

Its host plant is a rare, beautiful purple lupine called Kindaids. I could base a fairy costume on that flower.

I just love its fuzzy lil blue body and those stripy antennae! Many of our local gossamer winged blue butterflies have these characteristics.

To the surprise of no one, JUNE IS UPON US, officially putting us halfway through the year (crazy happenings and all xD). First Monday Yap of June, so LET'S GET INTO IT!! ^ o^)/

Song on repeat: See the Moon - Gamma Skies
↳ idky but this song has always been my "lock in and GET STUFF DONE" song on top of being my "I just wanna lay down and let my body rest after a long day" song, so I always end up circling back to it somehow xD

Quote on repeat: "Someone missed you today. Someone noticed when you when you were gone. Someone loves you when you're there. Someone loves you when you're nowhere to be found at all." - Alan Watts

All that aside:

The heatwave is in full effect, so thankfully I was able to work from home today and stay out the heat b/c YEESH, whatever the powers that be are cooking in the oven, IT'S DONE TAKE IT OUT HJKSDFHJKDS Outside of that today was pretty chill! Kinda dreading that time is moving so fast b/c it means the Career Experience I've been enjoying is ending soon, but I'm gonna try not to focus so much on it and just enjoy what time I have left!

I may not be looking forward to going back to my original team in October, but HEY, at least I go see Sleep Token in the same month so SILVER LINING!! ^ o^)/ That and I realized 4 MORE MONTHS UNTIL PARALIVES RELEASES!! I've been itching for a life sim game for so LONG and I apologize in advance for the person I'm gonna become in December!! 🙏

Speaking of games, made some more progress with event content in P5X and Balatro!! Both have been a bit challenging, but thankfully engaging enough to where I wanna keep trying and haven't fully given up yet. xD

Also, MORE RENAGI SHENANIGANS ^ o^)/ Canon ship tomfoolery under the cut since it’s a LOT and I don’t wanna put you through that if you don’t wanna read it xD

The School Reader. Third Book: Containing Progressive Lessons in Reading, Exercises in Articulation and Inflection, Definitions, by Charles Walton Sanders

The third book is still focused on reading. Very few of the pieces come with bylines. Still, it's taking on the aspect of the later readers, with the focus on good readings, edifying and instruction.

May be chiefly of interest in view of what they selected in the era.

Unpickled pickles

Everything is so much.

I did get my hair cut between work and circuits today (missing a call from my boss by skiving a little bit early, oops).

And circuits was good, the last week our usual trainer is doing it! They have to reassure us that they'll still be around, they're still doing lift club, but they need their Monday evenings back. They're self-employed and they work long odd hours, and they have a kid and everything. Fair enough but I'll miss them! We've already had their replacement a couple times and it helps to know I like them too but still.

We always have music playing on a big speaker during circuits, and they asked everyone to pick a song to play tonight. I chose Calvin Harris's "Summer" because I'd already had to listen to some metal nonsense and an actual ballad (who wants breathy singer-songwriter types in the gym??) and I needed some dance music. I did my burpees so much faster when "Sandstorm" was playing!

Biggest achievement of today was getting the report draft to the copyeditor on time. Second biggest is making sure my best binder has been washed and has a chance to dry before I need to wear it tomorrow afternoon (and Wednesday). Third biggest achievement is finally, only after I got back from circuits, starting to think about what my keynote speech on Wednesday will entail.

Priorities!

I've got a few slides and everything. Our pal V gave me a lift home from circuits and when I told him I had no idea what my talk was going to be about and maybe should be worried that I'm not more worried, he said "I think I'm more worried for you now!" Oh no. He really did seem it too, bless him. I should text him tomorrow and tell him that it's fine.

The best thing that happened today is something I mostly sorted out a couple of days ago: some friends having a shitty time and dreading the UK heatwave said they'd benefit from getting some groceries delivered. One of them was able to give an idea of what kind of food would work and V told them I'm a genius at sorting out groceries online so no pressure. I took the suggestions and what I know of them and what kinds of things were on offer. The first message we got this afternoon was "It's arrived! Just put it in bags and taking a breather. From first impressions: you know us very well :D" Aw. I'm just glad it's stuff they can eat.

The next message was one of them describing the other's reaction to seeing baby cucumbers (which I'd chosen as easier to eat than having to slice up one big cucumber): "oh they're unpickled pickles!" I've been smiling at that ever since.

Basic Income

In a new pilot program, this city will give homeless young adults $1,200 in cash every month for two years

According to the Stanford Basic Income Lab, universal basic income is a periodic cash payment that is given to individuals unconditionally, requiring no work requirement or sanctions to access.

And as various nonprofits and cities across the country experiment with basic income programs, most have found that the money received is largely used to pay for the basic essentials many Americans struggle to afford.

A new pilot program in Boston, Massachusetts wants to find out if the same trend applies for a specific demographic: young adults facing homelessness
