Not Knowing

It's a pet hate of mine when someone who doesn't know a thing tries to fake it.

I hate it.

There's nothing wrong with not knowing, and in fact if I can I'm happy to try to explain it so we can keep talking.

But people are allergic to appearing not to know, or worse, being wrong, and it completely fucks up a conversation that otherwise might prove quite fruitful.

One of the things I love about my job is that I have to examine peoples' assumptions about the way they do their job. So I have to get people to explain what they do to me in great detail. It's always fascinating.

So rewarding, right? So much better than pretending you know it all already and not actually being able to do anything useful.

I know I speak about a situation where I know a thing and they don't, but the same applies to me in the position of not knowing. I'll tell you, because I want to know! I want to share in the thing that you're excited about! It's fun!
