My main problem with dying is not seeing what we become.

I firmly believe that over a long enough timeline - including the scenario where we blow ourselves up, and have to recover for thousands of years - we're going to be stellar.

It's just tragic that our ten-year-scale fluctuations hurt so many people.

"ten-year-scale fluctuations" is a really good way to put it. "The moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice" is hard to find comfort in when the Now is so....well, this.
